Our Spring Concert Series is Back
with a Great New Line-Up!
In addition to being part of the “Post-Modern” Jug Band Movement, this group performs eclectic sets that include Jug Band classics interwoven with American roots music from traditional folk to Cajun, country and gospel. As with many accomplished Jug Bands, you can expect to hear a washtub bass, dueling washboards, kazoos, whistles, and of course, a jug — a full complement of strings including guitar, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle, banjo, and Dobro, and an occasional concertina. Formed originally to raise funds for Chatham’s Unitarian/Universalist Meeting House, The Band has been performing on Cape Cod for twelve years playing festivals and gigs from Falmouth to Provincetown to Nantucket.
Johnny Hoy and The Bluefish – April 14th – 8PM
Formed in 1991, the band has evolved through many incarnations, three Tone Cool and two self-produced CDs, trips around the world as far as South Africa and mostly the joys of playing a lot of music on Martha’s Vineyard where most of them live. The band started out as a four-piece with no piano, became a five-piece for several years, and then returned to a four-piece configuration, this time with no bass, and it’s been that way for over 10 years.
Entrain – April 21st – 8 PM
Epic in sound and kaleidoscopic in vision, the eclectic Martha’s Vineyard-based six piece Entrain has been thrilling critics and fans alike since its inception. Formed by drummer Tom Major in 1993, Entrain is also lead singer/guitar wiz Brian Alex. Joining them is bassist M’Talewa, saxophonist/keys/percussionist Rob Loyot, saxophonist/percussionist Hilary Noble and Trombone/keys Lennie Peterson Veterans all, their collective resume includes stints with such diverse players as Bo Diddley, Carly Simon, Chuck Berry, Southside Johnny, James Mongomery, Flor De Cana, and Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Entrain has recorded eight albums, available on Dolphin Safe Records, all of which have been praised for their ability to shift effortlessly between musical styles – from rock, blues, calypso and ska, to zydeco, jazz and funk – often within the same song.
(In The) Pocket – April 28th – 7:30 PM
(In the) Pocket consists of four passionate,
dedicated local musicians who enjoy playing
many styles of music. (IT) P often performs with
incredible Jazz talents around the Cape.
Jerry Portnoy – May 12th – 8 PM
Jerry Portnoy was born in 1943 and grew up in the blues-rich atmosphere of Chicago’s famous Maxwell Street Market during the golden age of Chicago Blues. He began his professional career in the late 60s and since that time has performed, live and on television, for millions of people around the world. During a career that includes six years as a member of the fabled Muddy Waters Blues Band, another six as leader of the Legendary Blues Band, four years at the head of his own band The Streamliners, and another four as a featured member of the Eric Clapton Band, his touring schedule has carried him to every state in the union and twenty-eight foreign countries on six continents, with performances at the White House, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Smithsonian, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and at major jazz festivals worldwide, including the Newport Jazz Festival, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Warsaw International Jazz Jamboree, the Hawaii Pacific Jazz and Music Fair, and the Grande Parade du Jazz in Nice, France.
